Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is the testing of materials, for surface or internal flaws or metallurgical condition, without interfering in any way with the integrity of the material or its suitability for service.
NDT can be applied in any industrial environment at any stage of manufacture - from steel making to site inspection of components already in service. A certain degree of skill is required to apply the techniques properly in order to obtain the maximum amount of information concerning the product quality. The following are some of the commonly used NDT methods.
The qualification is based on American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) recommended Practice document no: SNT-TC-1A, Personnel Qualification and Certification in Non-Destructive Testing.
NDT Level II is an individual qualified to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications. The NDT Level ll should be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which qualified and should exercise assigned responsibility for on the-job training and guidance of trainees and NDT Level I personnel. The NDT Level II should be able to organize and report the results of NDT tests.
Obtaining the correct certification will provide job opportunities all over the world; the possibilities are limited only by motivation and ambition.
Many of the courses offered are in standard form; however, most can be tailored in content and duration to suit individual company needs both in-centre and on-site. Many of the courses can be taken in combination; this can be especially beneficial to meet multi disciplines NDT requirements.
